The P1D Ultra Clean without sensor function in bore sizes Ø32 to Ø125mm is an ISO 15552 / VDMA clean profile cylinder for standard temperature -20°C to +80°C. Specifically designed for the food industry and washdown environments and the stringent requirements for hygiene regarding choice of materials and corrosive resistance have guided the development of this cylinder series. Utilising internal composite technology to save weight, while assuring the high performance and functionality expected of an ISO cylinder. With anodised front and rear end plates, stainless steel piston rod, pneumatic cushioning and piston with PUR seals as standard. Offering various piston rod materials, seal options and all cylinders are greased with a transparent food grade grease for long service life and quiet smooth operation. Supported by a full range of ISO mountings the P1D Ultra Clean with easy-to-clean geometry is suitable for wide range of food industrial applications.
■ Design principles
The innovative design of P1D-C follows the preferred principles for products used in the food industry. The careful design of this ultra clean cylinder range eliminates areas where liquids and dirt etc can collect by removing recesses, grooves, pockets or any other "inbound" geometry. All elements are designed to have a protruding shape, ie. a positive geometry. Examples of this are the convex shape body extrusion, end covers without any cavities or recesses and the protruding cushioning screws.
■ Dry piston rod, HDPE
In many applications, but primarily in the food industry, equipment has to be frequently cleaned. This can result in the film of grease on the cylinder piston rod being washed away, which puts special demands on the materials and the design of the piston rod seal system. For these type of ""dry rod"" operations a specifically designed L-shaped HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene) seal system can be used. This self lubricating plastic material together with the design of the scraper ring and piston seal ensures a smooth trouble free movement.
■ Food approved grease
The initial lubrication of the P1D-C cylinder range is made with our proven grease approved for use in the food industry. This edible grease is used for all our standard cylinders.
■ Patented clean design centre trunnions
The design of a traditional mounted centre trunnion is typically not preferred for "clean" applications as cavities make the product unsuitable for use in the food industry. The P1D-C series offers a new solution for the centre trunnion design to compliment the clean lines of the cylinder with all main dimensions complying with ISO 15552. Representing a new and important opportunity for food and packaging applications, stainless steel pivots are countersunk into the body extrusion and attached directly, allowing articulated cylinder installation. This centre trunnion is factory fitted and is available on all P1D-C cylinders in bore sizes 32 to 80mm with stroke lengths up to 700mm. (Longer stroke lengths on request).
■ Dedicated plugs seal off end cover screw recesses
Normally upon installation some of the end cover screw mounting holes are not required. In applications where these need to be sealed, dedicated plugs are available that push directly into the head of the end cover screw providing a high force attachment and reliable seal. The collar of the plug head has a convex lip and used with the rubber gasket supplied offers an IP67 protection rating. These plugs are available as accessories in bag quantities of four.
General Technical Data:
• International Standards : complies with ISO 15552, ISO 6431, VDMA 24562 and AFNOR installation dimension standards.
• Bore Sizes : Ø32, Ø40, Ø50, Ø63, Ø80, Ø100 and Ø125 mm
• Stroke Length : 5 to 2800mm
• Versions : double acting / double acting with rod lock
• Cushioning : adjustable pneumatic
• Position Sensing : (not available on this series)
• Installation : a wide range of cylinder mountings in anodised aluminium providing the same overall corrosion resistance.
• Mounting Position : any
Operating and Environmental Data:
• Operating Medium : For best possible service life and trouble-free operation dry, filtered compressed air to ISO 8573-1:2010 quality class 3.4.3 should be used. This specifies a dew point of +3°C for indoor operation (a lower dew point should be selected for minus temperature operation and we recommend the use of an inline dryer) and is in line with the air quality from most standard compressors with a standard filter.
• Operating Pressure : 0.5 to 10 Bar
• Operating Temperature : -20°C to +80°C (standard temperature)
• Pre-lubricated : further lubrication is normally not necessary. If additional lubrication is introduced it must be continued.
• Corrosion Resistance : high resistance to corrosion and chemicals.
Materials and surface treatment have been selected for industrial applications where solvents and detergents are frequently used.
