Outfitting a Seafari system with HRO's necessary options and accessories will add more life to your watermaker and lower your maintenance costs.
Seawater can shorten the life of a Reverse Osmosis (RO) membrane by introducing biological contaminants into the system. If seawater is not removed periodically from the membrane, minerals will attach to the surface causing corrosion of the internal parts. Biological fouling is also an issue, as seawater contains microscopic organisms that can die and decay, causing a bad smell and corrosion. Rinsing the watermaker with fresh water will prevent these potential issues, saving unnecessary maintenance and costly repairs.
The Horizon Reverse Osmosis Fresh Water Flush Option extends the life of the membranes by rinsing them with fresh water by merely a touch of a button. By rinsing the watermaker with fresh water, the Fresh Water Flush removes all salt water, minerals, and other living organisms from the internal parts of the system, flushing the membranes with clean fresh water.
When not manually operated, the Fresh Water Flush automatically rinses the RO system out every 7 days, using the on-board water supply. This prevents salt water corrosion of the internal parts and reduces biological fouling of the RO membrane.
Please Note: the Fresh Water Flush is not a replacement for a membrane preservative treatment. Preserving a membrane is still recommended to prevent bacterial growth.
